Artwork

As I get on in life, the impulse to do artwork becomes ever stronger.

Recently that's involved a lot of clothing embellishment - See some edited highlights

I painted a lot of landscape art during the pandemic, and made a lot of repetitive chalk drawings of carp, which turned into a zine which became part of a public consultation response.

I enjoy computer art too, and have had some fulfilment out of tinkering to the demoscene, (a hacker art subculture of intangible cultural heritage). You can watch a video with me tic80 livecoding on stage at the recent WHY festival in the Netherlands.

In the early 2000s I self-described as a "software artist"; as part of a wider scene of "locative media art" I did a series of invited talks, workshop/residencies, and puvlications; a line of work which fed into the beginnings of OpenStreetmap and into a more traditional roles in open source GIS for me.
